The Centre for Urban Development Studies (CUDS) was set up at the Dr MCR HRD Institute in July 2001. The primary objective of the Centre is to meet the training requirements of Municipal Administration & Urban Development and other related departments in the State. The CUDS is functioning with grants from Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Govt. of India besides funds received from the State Government through the Institute.
After a brief gap in 2013-14 the centre was reorganized in November 2014 as an independent unit. The CUDS mainly addresses the capacity building needs of the Municipal Administration & Urban Development and other related departments in the State of Telangana. The Centre also focuses on urban issues through research related to urban planning, infrastructure services, shelter, poverty, urban governance and finance.
